It really is one financial woe after another this year for me, isn't it? :[ So... here's the story.




Last month, I fostered a 9 year old dog (golden retriever mix) named Dakota. This dog was severely neglected by her family, and they actually had to give her up because they were being evicted.. Anyway, I really did not want to see this dog go into a kill shelter, so I took her in. Dakota came to me with a wide array of medical problems-- she had a severe flea infestation and was anemic, she had serious ear infections, she was emaciated, had rotting teeth, skin irritations all over, bald spots, and... the list goes on. So for a month, I administered all her medication (this was through a rescue organization, don't worry-- I didn't pay for any of her vet bills, just her food/leash/treats/etc) and tried to fatten her up as much as possible... but much to my surprise, despite the fact that I was feeding her way more than any dog should be fed on a daily basis, she was not putting on weight. I had been told that she had already been dewormed, so I wasn't worried-- until I saw tapeworm segments.

So... I dewormed her AGAIN.

About a week and a half later, she was looking healthy and much more comfortable, and she got adopted by a nice woman in PA. So yay, Dakota!



Now. The important part... My cat, Stella-- I adopted her a couple of years ago and up until recently, she had no health problems whatsoever. But after Dakota came in to the picture, I began to notice Stella acting strange... I took her in to the vet today, and it turns out Stella actually contracted tapeworm from Dakota. GREAT. So not only am I completely disgusted (tapeworms are the grossest things imaginable, seriously. They can grow to be 40 feet long AHHH!) but all the tests and whatnot managed to rack up a bill close to $400.

So here's where I need your help.

I REALLY hate to add to my work list, but... I've been making good progress on my commissions and I know that I'll have them all completed by mid-July at the latest. So.. I'm going to offer something along the lines of this:



for $40 dollars (actually, $41.50, to calculate in paypal fees..) What you'll get is a cleaned up pencil sketch with color thrown on top-- in a similar style, though I will say that that piece is fairly old now, and that they'll undoubtedly look better than that. XD

I'm going to open up <s>10 slots</s> 7 slots, (thanks to an unbelievably generous donation from T___T thank you SO much!) so I can cover Stella's medical expenses and not go broke x___x; I can't BELIEVE how expensive tests/medication are for animals...

A little more information about these commissions:

- All of these will be completed by mid-August at the absolute latest, but more than likely before July 23rd.
- If you want to commission me, please comment on this journal entry to claim a slot, then when I reply and update the journal with your name, send me a description of the character you would like drawn. Include any descriptions, reference drawings/photos, and anything else you can think of-- if there's a specific color scheme or something you'd like, let me know and I'll be glad to accommodate you.
- I will be more than happy to draw "characters" based on real people, if that's what you're looking for-- and if you'd like to commission fanart of some sort, that's totally cool too.
- If you want a couple image, you're going to have to buy two slots.
- If you want the original sketch mailed to you for a little extra, let me know so I can be sure to do the drawing on high quality bristol and not just some crappy computer paper or something of that nature

I think Stella will be all better after this, at least I hope I'm glad I fostered Dakota and got her into a good home, but at the same time it was kind of messed up that the rescue organization pretty much said "PEACE OUTTTT" as soon as she was adopted, even though my own pet was having problems BECAUSE of the dog. Anyway, I really really appreciate you guys commissioning me, I know that sometimes my prices are higher than you'd normally want to pay, but this time I swear it's for a good cause ;;;
